Full-time Public Ways Supervisor

The City of Devils Lake, a community of approximately 7,000 in NE North Dakota, is accepting applications for the position of Public Ways Supervisor. This position is responsible for the direction and oversight of all street maintenance, machinery maintenance, signing and painting maintenance, cemetery maintenance, weed and environment regulation, and mosquito control. The Public Ways Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities for all workers in the Public Ways department. The successful applicant will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and management skills and must pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug test. Proven knowledge of streets maintenance and repair and previous supervision experience required. Part-time Assistant Library Director

Job Description

Under the general direction of the Library Director, ensures the highest level possible of professional and friendly customer service through overseeing the administration and supervision of the Library Department’s Operations Division, which includes Electronic Services, Technical Services, and Circulation Services. This position develops policy recommendations and implements policy; prepares, coordinates, and monitors the Library’s annual budget, cataloging and acquisitions, accuracy of databases and websites, and coordination of all Library procurement; and supervises.

  • Barcode items and accession into library catalog
  • Prep those items for accessioning into collection
  • Creates new book list weekly
  • Take pictures for new items list weekly & post to social media
  • Takes pictures for programs and posts to social media
  • Assist patrons with technology questions
  • Enter requests for Inter-Library lloans
  • Takes on the director’s duties when director is out
  • Scratched DVDs can be given to Assistant Director to attempt repair/cleaning
  • Records minutes of monthly Library Board meeting

Required Skills

Extensive working knowledge of contemporary professional public library theory, principles, practices, functions, methods, and administration. Thorough knowledge of federal, state, county, and local regulations and rules governing public libraries. Knowledge of the management, inventory, and cataloging of library collections. Knowledge of procurement and budget management practices and procedures for a municipal library. Knowledge of City policies and procedures. Above-average proficiency in the use of computers and related equipment, hardware and software, including Microsoft Office applications; working knowledge of library automation systems and of the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Exceptional ability to apply independent judgment in the interpretation of policies and to enforce policies and procedures with tact and diplomacy. Ability to supervise, motivate, and instruct staff and volunteers. Requires excellent communication, leadership, interviewing and employee relations skills. Ability to express ideas effectively in English, verbally and in writing, to groups and individuals. Ability to work with others effectively as a team and to work independently without direct supervision. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and fellow employees; strong organizational awareness. Flexibility in work habits and scheduling and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously under time pressures.

Required Experience

Some college or university accredited. Some professional experience in public library technical services and/or electronic services. Experience in management or supervisory experience. Must possess a valid Drivers’ license, with a satisfactory driving record, or ability to obtain one.
