Recycling Center

The City's Recycling Center is located at 205 2nd Street NE (take the frontage road next to Freije Chiropractic Center). City residents and County residents may bring items to the Recycling Center for disposal. Items will be charged inert landfill rates if items are acceptable at the landfill. Household garbage must be brought to our transfer station and will be charged as transfer station waste.

    Misuse of the recycling center drop off site could result in a $500 fine.
    If not sure, call and ask if your items are acceptable by calling (701) 662-7624 or (701) 662-7600, ext. 1.

    IF IT IS NOT LISTED, IT'S NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

Using the recycling bins improperly results in contaminated loads that must be hauled to the landfill, rather than being recycled.

  • Paper:
    Recycling Drop OffNewspaper, magazines, office paper, greeting cards, paper
    grocery bags, any paper that comes in your mailbox is allowed. Gift wrap in not recyclable. Tie in bundles or put in paper bags to prevent blowing around.

  • Cardboard:
    Only corrugated cardboard and fiberboard boxes such as cereal boxes, and shoe boxes allowed. Pizza boxes or containers with food residue are not acceptable. Open and flatten all boxes.

  • Glass:
    Only clear or colored glass jars or bottles allowed. Rinse, remove
    covers and labels.

  • Plastics:
    Only narrow neck plastic bottles or jugs allowed, #1-7. Ice cream pails or margarine containers are not acceptable. Rinse, remove covers and labels. Crush to save space.

  • Tin/Aluminum:
    Only aluminum cans, tin food cans, or metal screw on lids are allowed. Rinse, remove covers and labels. Crush to save space.

  • Motor Oil:
    Used motor oil may be dumped in the specially marked tank inside the fence. Do not leave containers or oil filters.

  • Grass/Leaves:
    Only grass and leaves allowed in the designated area. City Residents Only. Do not leave bags.

  • Branches:
    Only small amounts of branches allowed in designated area. City Residents Only.
    City residents with a residential account may take small amounts of branches or tree trimmings to the Recycling Center. Any amounts larger than a pickup load must be taken to the landfill, where they can be dumped free of charge. You can make an appointment to go to the inert landfill, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Call (701) 662-7600, ext. 1 to make an appointment. During the Spring and Fall clean up there are additional dates in which you can go to the inert landfill free of charge, including some Saturdays. Please refer to the City calendar for those dates. You can pick up a City calendar at City Office located at 423 6th Street NE or it can be printed online under Maps/City Calendar.
